Anglican Church Women (ACW)
The ACW of the parish has a number of departments, which connect directly into and complement many parish programs. These are: Family Life, Social Concern, Children and Youth, Altar Guild, and Outreach. The ACW meets each Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. at the Parish Centre. ___________________________________________________
Did you know that the first Anglican Women's Group in the Parish of Foxtrap dates back to the early 1900's? It was formed by Mrs. Edith Caldwell, wife of the Rev E.K.H. Caldwell, and although it was commonly known as the 'Sewing Circle', it was to be named 'The Church of England's Women's Sewing Class'. Its objective was to further the cause of Christian unity and fellowship, and to promote spiritual and temporal welfare of its members.
The first officers were: Edith Caldwell (President), Naomi Andrews (Vice- President), Mrs. Jacob Dawe (Secretary), and Mrs. Christopher (Treasurer). The Sewing Circle evolved into the C.E.W.A. (The Church of England's Women's Association) with branches in Greeleytown, Long Pond and Kelligrews. In the 1960's the C.E.W.A. changed its name to the A.C.W. (Anglican Church Women), and on Nov 26th, 1980 the three A.C.W. branches held their first joint meeting.
Today, the ladies of our church continue to meet as an organized branch of the A.C.W. The purpose of this organization is to unite women in a fellowship of worship, study and offering, which will deepen and strengthen their own spiritual lives, and will lead them into Christian service everywhere. We give God thanks for "their faithfulness, their hard work, and their part in keeping the Church alive for the Lord and for us." (History and Her-story, by Madeline Critchell)
